Rest in Peace
Word was received that one of our survey brothers has passed. Kenneth Brown, RPLS No. 2062 (expired), died September 30 following a long battle with health issues. While not a TSPS member, Kenny was known by many, and was preceded in death by his father and fellow surveyor Bob Brown. Condolences to the family.

Chapter 5 Committee Reports
PUBLIC RELATIONS: (Gary Matthews)
Meet & Greet Incoming Chapter President Pat Baldasaro is hitting the ground running. Pat has made inquiries with several local state legislators in an effort for Chapter 5 to arrange for dialogue, and State Senator Jane Nelson will be the first visit. This is a priority activity at the TSPS state level, as history has proven these activities to be extremely valuable when survey related issues arise during the legislative session. The events serve to introduce ourselves as professionals, educate the legislator and their staff as to who we are and what we do. Let’s assist Pat in these efforts, as the Dallas area has some of the most influential and powerful legislators who we need as friends. You can do your part by being more proactive with your own state representatives.
The opportunity for Chapter 5 and TSPS to participate at a Scouting event at Dallas Heritage Park unfortunately won’t happen this year. City staff had invited TSPS Chapter 5 to participate with survey equipment displays, frontier surveyor reenactment, and a brief historical lecture by author Susanne Starling. But a change in the event date made it impossible for several of the surveyor participants to attend. Hopefully another opportunity will present itself for Chapter 5 members to share our profession with others.
Skills high school teacher Bart Burnett has transferred to a high school in Grand Prairie ISD, and wants Chapter 5 to know he will be seeking their support and assistance as he builds another Skills survey team at his new school. He also reminds us that Duncanville H.S. will continue with its strong Skills program.
TSPS Executive Director D J Kyle is talking to Bart about making booth space available to area Skills programs at the TSPS convention, as well as performing the opening flag ceremony.
Chapter 5 has been requested to assist with a donation to the SKILLS Fall Leadership Conference, which it has done so for several years. Chapter Executive Committee voted to donate $500 to the SKILLS Fall Leadership Conference, which will be held November 1 & 2 in Waco at TSTC..
EDUCATION: (John Pierce):
Two survey classes are in full swing at North Lake College this semester
TREASURER'S REPORT: (John Pierce):
John reported that the Chapter continues to enjoy a healthy financial position, both in the general fund and in the scholarship fund. These monies allow Chapter 5 to maintain its leadership position among the Chapters, and allows the Chapter to be in a position to contribute financially to a variety of great civic and academic opportunities throughout the year among them: academic scholarships for local survey students, SKILLS donations, Tyler JC Book Fund, Annual Convention/TSPS Auxiliary, Oklahoma Tornado Relief Fund, Trig*Star, Ray Wisdom Auction, etc. Thanks to our members for their generosity to these and other causes.
NORTH AREA REP: (Chris Freeman):
The next regularly scheduled TSPS Board of Directors Meeting will be held on Thursday October 31 8 a.m.-9 a.m. in Arlington in conjunction with the Annual Convention. The Annual TSPS Membership Meeting will follow at 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Attendance and participation is encouraged by members, this is the business of our organization.
Chapter 5 members,
We are currently looking to fill the Committee Chair for Skills and I would like to call on members who may be interested in taking on this important responsibility. In addition, I would also like to hear from those who can donate some time to this worthy cause. I understand this is a large request and that is why I hope we can find several members who can spare some time to help.
Please contact me if you any questions or if you have interest in this position. Your time and effort would be greatly appreciated, not only by Chapter 5 but also those we can teach along the way.
Chapter 5 President
