Chapter 5 Public Relations
The Chapter leadership recently voted to spend $200.00 to “adopt a county” in the Texas Almanac online version. We adopted Collin County. Our Chapter website is hyperlinked. And the sponsorship is good for 2 years.   In the Rearview Mirror…

The May Chapter meeting was well attended by over 50 members and guests. Mike Lewis, RPLS with Pacheco Koch, presented a quick overview of the changes to the ALTA /ACSM Minimum Standards Requirements for ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys. Updates were also provided on the legislative situation, which will be coming to an end at the end of May. Motions were made and approved to donate $500 to the Duncanville H.S. Engineering Program in recognition of their recent 3rd Place finish at the Skills High School Survey Contest. A $200 donation was approved to support the Tyler JC Surveying & Mapping High School Camp, scheduled for early June. A motion was also approved to spend monies up to $900 for donating items to the Annual Ray Wisdom Auction, which benefits survey related scholarship funds overseen by TSFI.

Annual Tim Mireaur Memorial Golf Tournament
Another outstanding event at this very popular Chapter activity. Organizer Sean Flaherty once again did a great job arranging for a fun filled day at The Old Brickyard Golf Course in Ferris on a crispy and breezy day. 90 golfers participated, and there were 14 Hole Sponsors. Courthouse research Specialists provided a fantastic pre tournament breakfast. And the always popular Texas de Brazil catered lunch awaited golfers as they finished their rounds. Sean will provide a financial report by next month.

2011 TSPS Annual Convention & Exhibits October 6-8
Don’t forget, this year Chapter 5 is co-hosting the Convention with Chapter 2. The site will be the Frisco Stonebriar Embassy Suites, next to the Dr. Pepper stadium. Mike Bearden is the Convention Committee Chairman, and has been busy with securing seminar presenters, sponsors, and all the other details that come with this event. There will be a need to get volunteers to assist with all the little details, so please help Mike and his Committee by offering to assist at whatever level you are able. It makes the event a great success.

Chapter Elections are on the horizon
Before you know it, the ballot for the Chapter elections will be prepared and distributed to the membership. The Chapter is in need of fresh ideas, enthusiasm, and the input and participation from its younger members. Serving as a Chapter officer should not be viewed as a burden, but rather an opportunity to help lead the Chapter in its activities and direction. The ballot will be distributed in early August, with the installation of the new officers at the September 13 Chapter meeting. If you would like to be considered as a Chapter officer, please contact current President Jerry Lehew. Also, if you are interested in working on one or more of the Chapter committees, currently or down the road, there is always a place for volunteers. Remember, any volunteer organization will only be as strong as its members. Help keep Chapter 5 as a leader in our state organization.

Chapter 5 Membership … Recruit a Member!
There are currently 140 members of Chapter 5. TSPS encourages all Chapters to work at increasing the membership. Encourage your co-workers, staff, and colleagues to consider joining TSPS. With the current possible legislative action related to the TBPLS, strength in numbers will be critical when we want a strong and united voice heard. If all members would recruit one other member, Chapter 5 would double in size. Paul Mannel is the Chapter 5 Membership Chairman, contact him or any other Chapter Officer for information or guidance.

Newsletter Contributions
If you would like to offer an article or share some news or information, you are more than welcome to do so. The Newsletter is a service to Chapter 5 members, and your contributions are encouraged. Whether it is a technical offering, a historical article, or just a neat photo or link that might be of interest to our members, please forward it for inclusion so that all may enjoy.
