Chapter Committee Report

PUBLIC RELATIONS: (Gary Matthews) Author and historian Susanne Starling, an old friend of Chapter 5 and all surveyors, has contacted Chapter 5 regarding a potential fun opportunity at Heritage Park in Dallas. On November 9th, in conjunction with a Boy Scout event, Susanne is having discussions with City of Dallas officials about Chapter 5 providing a frontier surveying re-enactment/demonstration. Surveyor Johnny Ingram from northeast Texas (Chapter 23) has agreed to head any TSPS efforts and coordinate with Ms. Starling.

EDUCATION: (John Pierce): The fall semester class offerings and schedule should be out soon.
According to John Pierce (Chapter 5), the next CST exam will be given on Saturday September 14, at the West Campus of North Lake College in Irving. You may sign up through TSPS ( http://tsps.org/calendar/cst-exam-dfw-airport-texas-0 ) or at www.nsps.us.com

TREASURER'S REPORT: (John Pierce): John reported the following financial information. The General fund has $5204 and the Scholarship fund has $5554. The Chapter recently donated $300 to the Moore Oklahoma Tornado Relief Fund.

CHAPTER REP: (Chris Freeman): The next regularly scheduled TSPS Board of Directors Meeting will be held on Saturday, August 10 at the Y. O. Ranch Hotel in Kerrville, Texas. Come down and join in the discussions of the Strategic Planning that occurs on Friday August 9. Your ideas and thoughts of where TSPS needs to go are valuable for a vibrant and healthy TSPS.

Are you aware of this???...

TBPLS has received a request from the City of Rowlett asking that all land surveying crews needing access to any City maintained Infrastructure or facility (i.e., wastewater manholes, lift stations, water tanks, water pump stations, valve stacks, storm water manholes and inlets, fiber optic systems) please contact the municipality before accessing the facility or structure for topographical data or elevations.

The City infrastructure must remain secure for all facilities and the City must be informed of any entry into any structure. Any survey crews caught entering any structure or facility without first notifying the municipality will be given a Class C citation for gaining unlawful access as mandated by the City of Rowlett Public Works/Infrastructure Services Director Tim Rogers. The right of way agent or Infrastructure Services Division needs to know who accesses its infrastructure at any time and whom to contact for issues concerning their access.    On the Horizon ...

New Chapter leadership is on the horizon, with elections due to occur in August and new officer installation in September. While Justin Waldrip will be winding up his year, incoming President Pat Baldasaro is probably lining up his plans and strategy for his tenure. Two new Directors will also be elected, so any members interested in serving at the Officer level and/or at the committee level are always encouraged and welcomed. Jason Jernigan is the Chairman of the Nominating Committee and welcomes anyone who would like to nominate a member for an Officer position, or if anyone would like to volunteer themselves as a nominee.
